This workshop focuses on the fundamentals of being COMFORTABLE in the water. The goal is COMFORT and we move at YOUR PACE. Most adults who come to this class come with limited experience with the water and/or misconceptions about the water and/or a history of one or more traumatic experiences with water. We start by talking about the water and how it works and how it often behaves differently than we expect. Then, for those who would like to join us, we move into the water and walk and feel the differences between water movement and land movement and explore the ways our movements affect the water and the way our bodies behave in the water. Note: it's not uncommon for a student to be too scared to get in the pool. That's fine. You can sit and listen and watch and one of our coaches will check in on you to answer questions or discuss concerns. We explore the primary properties of interacting with the water: buoyancy and gravity and propulsion and drag and we experience each at your own pace. After getting acclimated and feeling some comfort and starting to understand how our bodies interact with the water, we move to putting our mouth, nose, eyes, and ears in the water. This is often a challenge for new swimmers (and for some not so new swimmers as well). We discuss and explore ways to protect eye, ears, nose and mouth in the water. From there, those who are comfortable can we move to some basic floating (already experienced a little when exploring buoyancy) and moving through the water, on both our stomach and back. The goal through the whole workshop is COMFORT in the water. We move at YOUR PACE. NO PUSH. NO RUSH.
